NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma junior Abraham Ancer fired a two-round 151 (+9) Monday at the Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic in El Paso, Texas. He is in a tie for 26th place at the prestigious event being played at the 6,781-yard, par-71 El Paso Country Club.
Ancer, who is No. 38 in the R&A World Amateur Golf Rankings, was selected for the event after being named a PING honorable mention All-American in June. He is 15 strokes behind leader Dylan Frittelli of Texas.
Ancer uncharacteristically recorded six bogeys in each round. He registered a pair of birdies on holes 11 and 14 in the first round, but finished the opening 18 in a tie for 24th place at 4 over par.
The course was just as punishing in the second round. He managed one birdie on the par-3 11th and finished the round at 5 over par.
"The pin placements were really tough," Ancer said. "I just kept hitting it in the wrong spots on and around the greens. I need to be more accurate with my shots to the green tomorrow and play smarter."

The Sooner captain will conclude the event with 18 holes Tuesday. Ancer has a history of strong finishes and will look to post a strong comeback in the final round. Live scoring is available on Golfstat.com.
