Paval, Mihov Ready for Indoor Championships

NORMAN, Okla. – Costin Paval and Tsvetan Mihov are set to compete in the 2011 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, taking place Nov. 3-6, at the indoor facilities at the USTA-Billie Jean National Tennis Center, located in Flushing, N.Y. Columbia University will serve as the tournament host.
“It is really exciting for Costin and Tsvetan,” head coach John Roddick said. “It's great that we have two guys representing Oklahoma Tennis at the Indoor Championships.”
OU's two participants is tied for the most of any school represented and is tops among the Big 12.
Paval, ranked No. 17 nationally, earned a spot in the prestigious tournament by finishing in the top-eight of the ITA All-American Championships. Paval will face Texas Tech's Gonzalo Escobar, ranked No. 11, in the first round.
Mihov has had an exceptional fall campaign and qualified after winning the USTA/ITA Central Region Singles Championships in Tulsa on Oct. 25. Mihov will take on Pepperdine's tenth-ranked Sebastian Fanselow on Thursday.
Last year, Roddick's Sooners were represented by Ionut Beleleu. Beleleu qualified by claiming the USTA/ITA Central Region Singles Title.
The singles draws consist of 32 players. Winners of the ITA Regional Championships and eight finalists from the ITA All-American Championships received automatic entry. Host school Columbia is given one wildcard entry and seven at-large entries, based on rankings, complete the tournament field.
