NORMAN, Okla. -- The Sooners begin the season ranked 15th in The Associated Press Preseason Women's Basketball Poll, released Saturday.
Big 12 rival Baylor received 33 of 40 first-place votes to take the top spot. Notre Dame drew six first-place votes and was second, with Tennessee, Connecticut and Stanford completing the first five.
Texas A&M was sixth, receiving the other first place vote. Miami, Duke, Louisville, and Georgetown round out the first 10.
Maryland was 11th, followed by Penn State, Georgia, Florida State and Oklahoma.
OU is outside the preseason top 10 for just the second time in the past six seasons. The Sooners finished the 2010-11 regular season ranked 21st but upset Miami in the second round of the NCAA tournament to extend its streak of Sweet 16 appearance to three consecutive seasons.
Rutgers was 16th followed by Purdue, Kentucky, DePaul and North Carolina. LSU, UCLA, Southern California, Texas, and St. John's finish the poll.
Oklahoma begins the season Wednesday, Nov. 2, hosting an exhibition game versus Central Oklahoma at the Lloyd Noble Center at 7 p.m.
