TULSA, Okla. - Tsvetan Mihov won his second straight title of the fall after defeating Drake's Anis Ghorbel in the finals of the USTA/ITA Central Region Championships on Tuesday at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center.
Mihov, fresh off claiming the OU Invitational Title, defeated Ghorbel 7-6(3) in the first set and won the second set in similar fashion, 7-6(5).
The win marks the second consecutive year a Sooner has won the prestigious title. Last year Ionut Beleleu claimed the championship after downing fellow Sooner Costin Paval.
With the finals victory Mihov earned a spot in the 2011 USTA/ITA National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships, taking place Nov. 3-6, at the new indoor facilities at the USTA-Billie Jean National Tennis Center, located in Flushing, New York. Columbia University will serve as the tournament host.
Aside from Mihov, the rest of the Sooners will head to Knoxville, Tenn., to compete in the Knoxville Challenger, Nov. 5-6.
