Sooners Win Doubles Championship

TULSA, Okla. - Marie-Pier Huet and Whitney Ritchie won the 2011 USTA/ITA Central Region Doubles Championship Monday, in Tulsa, Okla.
With the win, the OU tandem earned a spot at the 2011 USTA/ITA National Indoor Intercollegiate Championships Nov. 3-6 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.
"Whitney and Marie got better with each match and were very deserving of this title," OU head coach David Mullins said. "I am thrilled for Marie in her senior year to get this opportunity to go compete with the other top doubles players in the country."
Huet and Ritchie defeated OSU's Meghan Blevins and Mary Jermiah in the doubles final, 9-8 (5).
This marks the third straight year that a Sooner duo won the Central Region doubles title. Former Sooner Ana-Maria Constantinescu won both the 2010 and 2009 titles with partners Alice Radu and Teona Tsertsvadze respectively.
