GUADALAJARA, Mexico — In her second international action of the year, Oklahoma's Keilani Ricketts earned her fourth win of the Pan American Games on Sunday to lead the American squad to a 11-1 win over Canada in the event's gold medal game. The lefthander from San Jose, Calif., entered the circle in a relief role for Jordan Taylor in the second inning of the four-inning run-rule victory by the U.S.
The American squad completed the event with a perfect 9-0 record to win its eighth overall Pan Am gold medal and seventh consecutive title. Ricketts led the team in the circle with four wins and 22 strikeouts in 16.1 innings of action. The OU junior ended the competition with a 0.43 ERA.
“It was great to come out and win all of our games here,” said Ricketts. “Our defense and offense was working hard every single game and it is a pitchers dream to have that behind you. This gold medal is what we have worked really hard for at the Pan Ams. It is great that all of our hard work all summer has paid off here in Mexico.”
Ricketts entered the game in the top of the second with a 1-1 deadlocked score, two Canadian runners on base and one out. The lefty quickly got out of the inning without giving a hit as she would go on to only allow one hit in the entire game.
With the conclusion of the Pan American Games, Ricketts returns to the U.S. where the Oklahoma Softball program hosts its Fall Festival beginning this Friday.
