NORMAN, Okla. -- Stay tuned for a lot more OU women's basketball.
The University of Oklahoma Athletics Department has announced the remaining broadcast schedule for OU women's basketball's 2011-12 season. For the first time ever, all home games will be televised, including the two exhibition contests scheduled for Nov. 2 and Nov. 10.
These 13 broadcasts add to the seven regular season games already slated for Fox Sports or ESPN distribution.
The Sooner Sports Network will carry 10 home games to a regional audience beginning with the Dec. 4 Big Ten/Big 12 Challenge matchup with Ohio State. The exhibitions and season opener against Sacramento State on Nov. 13 will be available to COX cable subscribers in the Oklahoma City and Tulsa metro areas. SoonerVision, the broadcasting arm of OU Athletics, will produce each program.
Already one of the most aggressive production units in college athletics with 150 live events per year, SoonerVision will soar past that number this year to an anticipated 220, and all of them will be shot in High Definition.
Recent upgrades at SoonerVision have created more opportunity. With two control rooms, SoonerVision can now operate the elaborate message boards at OU venues, while sending out a production to television outlets at the same time. In previous years, many of those telecasts were covered with three cameras. This year, that number leaps to 10.
Games broadcast by SoonerVision or on the Sooner Sports Network will also be available via webcast at SoonerSports.com.
Furthermore, OU has secured the rights to broadcast four road games on the Sooner Sports Network via its opponent's third-tier network productions. Those will be Jan. 17 at Kansas State, Jan. 31 at Kansas, Feb. 18 at Iowa State and Feb. 29 at Texas Tech.
At least 24 games from Oklahoma's exhibition and regular season will be televised as well as the quarterfinal through championship rounds of the Big 12 Championship in Kansas City (FSN) and the NCAA First and Second Rounds hosted in Norman, Okla., (ESPN2).
