Postgame Notes

January 29, 2011 | Men's Basketball

Jan. 29, 2011

• Sophomore Steven Pledger scored 12 of his career-high 38 points in overtime as Oklahoma ended a 12-game road losing streak in an 82-76 win at Iowa State.

• Pledger nailed a career-high seven 3-pointers on 13 attempts.  His trey with 35 seconds left in regulation forced overtime and he went 2-for-2 from deep in the extra session.

• Pledger's 38 points were the most by a Sooner since Tommy Mason-Griffin also netted 38 last year in a home win over Iowa State.

• Pledger's 38 points were the most by a Big 12 player in conference play this year and the second most overall by a league player (Baylor's LaceDarius Dunn scored 43 against Morgan State on Jan. 4).

• The Sooners led 34-19 before settling for a 38-30 halftime lead.  The Cyclones took their first lead of the game (54-53) at the 8:23 mark of the second half and later went up by six (67-61 with 3:35 remaining).  OU scored the final six points of regulation (five by Pledger) to force overtime.

• Oklahoma is now 7-0 in overtime games under fifth-year head coach Jeff Capel.  Tonight marked OU's second overtime win this year (beat North Carolina Central 71-63 on Nov. 15 in Norman).

• With 11 points, freshman Cameron Clark was the only other Sooner who scored in double figures.  He added four rebounds and a career-high four assists.

• Junior forward C.J. Washington was key on the defensive end in 18 minutes off the bench, registering five rebounds, a block and two steals.  He also handed out the first two assists of his career.

• Oklahoma's 12 turnovers were their fewest in Big 12 play.  Iowa State committed 18 turnovers.

• The Sooners were 4-for-5 from the field in overtime while holding the Cyclones to a 3-for-10 mark.

• Iowa State entered the game averaging 8.8 treys per game but went just 5-for-24 from behind the arc tonight (.208).

• Oklahoma posted the win despite being outrebounded 45-34.  The Cyclones pulled down 14 offensive boards to OU's six and outscored the Sooners 14-4 in second-chance points.

• The Sooners are back home Tuesday when they host Baylor (14-6, 4-3) at 6 p.m. CT at Lloyd Noble Center.
