Oklahoma Head Coach Sherri Coale
On the game:
“I thought we did some really good things. I loved our grit and our toughness, the way we fought back and the way we executed in the face of the pressure. We just really battled. We cut into the rebounding margin even though we were under-sized. We just put ourselves in the position to win. I think it speaks volumes about where our potential lies.”
On what she told the team at halftime:
“We had just made so many mistakes in the first half. Defensive breakdowns, not following the scout -- just a lot of mistakes. We started the game giving them a wide open layup and then an offensive rebound. We just talked about the offensive rebounds and the points that they had gotten off of those. You take that away and you take away our turnovers, I think they only had six points off of offensive boards but they had 11 maybe off of turnovers and that changes the game entirely. We just talked about controlling the game in the second half and we did and cut into the lead immediately. So I'm really pleased with how we came back.”
On the play of Lyndsey Cloman in the second half:
“I thought she was fantastic. She's tough and she made some key baskets, obviously. She did a great job bottling Danielle Adams and not giving her position and then getting rebound position not letting her get rebounds as well.”
On the toughness of the Big 12:
“First of all, this is a reflection of how tough this conference is. What other conference has games that go like this? It was just an exchange of blows back and forth and it was high caliber basketball. I watch other leagues and I'm amazed of how tough ours is every single night.
Oklahoma Senior Guard Danielle Robinson
On the final minute:
“We just knew we had to get stops and secure the ball defensively. Go down and get good looks and I think we got that.”
On taking the final shots of the game:
“I want the ball in my hand and I know my teammates trust me enough to give it to me at the end of the game. They trust me to make the free-throw so that's what it came down to. I have had the opportunity to take the last shot many times and I knew that changing sides of the floor would take them off balance. I think I got a good look it just didn't go in. “
On the difference in the second half:
“I think we made it fun in the second half and we played with passion. I think it was a totally different team than in the first half. I think we really competed and played for each other. I think in the first we were a little bit on our own island and a little down. But then we came back and fought for each other and that's what it was about in the second half.
“I think we just played basketball, a simple thing we do every day. I think we made extra passes. We talked in the locker room at half time about over penetrating and I think we did a better job of really hitting people when they were wide open. “
Oklahoma Redshirt Sophomore Guard Whitney Hand
On the game:
“If everybody on the court can score it is hard defensively. You take away one thing and then give them one thing. I felt like in the first half especially we were kind of in between not taking away anything. So, in the second half I felt like we contained better. We did a lot of things a lot better. But it is very difficult to contain such an athletic team.”
Texas A&M Head Coach Gary Blair
On the game:
“Oklahoma did a great job of coming back to start the second half. We lost our poise at the point guard position, and they can't accept it. Then they gather their poise and went back and started running our offense, getting it inside to her (Danielle Adams) and then hitting the timely shots. (Syndey Colson) is not afraid of anything. She is a combo guard, she is better at the 2 than at the 1, but somebody has got to guard Robinson, and there isn't anyone sitting in front of me that can guard her and that was a great college game. I'm glad it was on your television network. Not real happy we didn't buy the network to feed to our place because it would have been a great feed.
On Danielle Adams:
“This kid here everybody tries to stop her. Inside; on double and triple; then she goes outside and she hits the jumper. You have to understand how tiring that is. She is guarding the post player then she has got to have the legs to hit the outside shot, and she's going to miss some, but she never misses bad and I'm very lucky to have her. But give Oklahoma a lot of credit, you just saw two of the three best teams in the Big 12, and what you also just saw two of the teams that are going to go pretty far in the NCAA's because we both have fire power, and we both deserve to be there but we got to play it out and hopefully both of us can stay injury free.”
