NORMAN, Okla. --
Former Sooner baseball greats return to help Oklahoma kick off the 2011 season at the Eighth Annual Diamond Dinner on Friday, Jan 28.

The event is set to begin at 7 p.m. with Daniel McCutchen (2004-06) serving as the night's honoree.  A three-year letterwinner at Norman H.S. and the University of Oklahoma, McCutchen is the last Sooner to make his Major League debut in 2009 with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The annual benefit dinner, which is open to the public, will be held at the Embassy Suites (2501 Conference Drive) in Norman.  The cost to attend is $30 per person and reservations are required.  Fans interested in attending can contact the Oklahoma baseball office at (405) 325-8354.  Fans will not be permitted to attend without reserving a spot in advance.

Current Oklahoma players and coaches will also be in attendance to join the former OU greats for an autograph session.

McCutchen made his mark during three stellar seasons at OU with 80 career appearances, which ranks third all-time in program history, with 30 starts. In 2006, he won a career best 10 games and pitched in a program-record 148.2 innings with five complete games.  He also struck out 147 batters that year, the second most produced by a Sooner in a single season, including six games with 10 or more punch outs.

Most notably in 2006, the right hander won the championship game of the Norman Regional with 5.2 innings of relief against Wichita State to help OU advance to the program's first NCAA Super Regional. That same week, McCutchen won game two of the Houston Super Regional at No. 1 Rice.

The McKinney, Texas, native also ranks in the top six in five other Sooner pitching categories and was part of the last Oklahoma no-hitter on March 9, 2005 against Arkansas Pine Bluff. McCutchen combined with five other Sooners that day to produce the seventh no-hitter in OU history.

Kenny Mossman, Associate Athletics Director for Communications will emcee the event for the fourth consecutive year.

The University of Oklahoma Home Run Club is once again the official presenter of the event. Those interested in joining the Oklahoma baseball team's official support group can do so at the banquet, or by contacting the Oklahoma baseball office, with a donation of $50.
