Wrestling Among Academic Elite

NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma wrestling team received the NCAA Public Recognition Award for the 2009-10 academic year, announced by the NCAA.

This honor is bestowed on teams that have an NCAA Division I Academic Progress Rate in the top ten percent of all squads in their respective sports.

The nine other universities that were also recognized in the men's wrestling category are Bucknell, Columbia, Duke, Iowa State, Millersville (Pa.), Northwestern, The U.S. Air Force Academy, Penn and Virginia.

Amongst the teams listed only Oklahoma (fifth) and Iowa State (Third) placed among the top 10 teams at the NCAA Championships in Omaha, Neb. this past March.

The Oklahoma men's gymnastics team and women's basketball team were also awarded with the Public Recognition accolade.
