NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma junior outfielder Elliott Blair was named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American Third Team on May 25.  It marks the 12th time a member of the OU baseball program has collected Academic All-America honors.

Blair, a petroleum engineering major, is one of four players from the Big 12 to appear on the first, second or third team.  He was tabbed All-District VI first team honoree on May 6.

A seven-time member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll (3.0 GPA or higher in each semester) and a recent honoree of the 2010 Big 12 Spring Community of Champions, representing academics, community service and leadership/sportsmanship, Blair has played in 22 games with six starts and a .417 batting average this season.

He played in 22 of OU's first 33 games in 2010 before suffering a concussion at Oklahoma State on April 13.  In 2009, appeared in 19 of the first 25 games before tearing his ACL and missing the rest of season.  He is a career .369 hitter with one error committed in 73 career games.

Blair was recently presented with two prestigious awards at the 2010 OU Scholar Athlete Breakfast.  A three-year member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), Blair was presented with the Athletics Director's Leadership Award, presented to the student-athletes who demonstrate extraordinary leadership in representing the University of Oklahoma and their team.  He was also given the Service Award given to student-athletes who have made important contributions to the community through their commitment to service.

Aaron Ivey (2007) was the last Sooner to be named an Academic All-American.  Ivey, a two-time honoree, was also named the sport's top student-athlete in 2007, collecting the Academic All-American of the Year award.

To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.

Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 14,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
