NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma sophomore Caleb Bushyhead was recently named one of 25 quarterfinalists for the Brooks Wallace Shortstop of the Year Award as released over the weekend by the College Baseball Foundation.
Bushyhead has hit safely in 19 of the last 20 games, including a career-high 10-game hitting streak. He ranks sixth on the team with a .328 batting average to go along with his four homers and 30 RBIs.
The Mannford, Okla., native also ranks second on OU with 17 multiple-hit games and has a .935 fielding percentage in his first full season starting in the Sooners' lineup. Bushyhead made 20 appearances, all off the bench, as a true freshman in 2009 and is the only Sooner this season to play in all 48 games and owns a team-best 47 starts.
The Wallace Award, sponsored by Mizuno, recognizes the nation's top shortstop and will be presented on July 2 in Lubbock, Texas, as part of the College Baseball Awards Show.
“These players have recorded some very impressive statistics,” said Kevin Dunagan, Wallace Award co-chair. “They started the season strong and have continued to build on that success.”
The revised watch list features shortstops from 15 conferences, with the ACC, Big 12 and SEC leading the pack with three representatives each.
Along with Bushyhead, the Big 12's Carter Jurica from Kansas State and Brodie Greene from Texas A&M also appear on the list.

It marks the second consecutive season that a Sooner shortstop has appeared on the list. In 2009, Bryant Hernandez was one of five finalists up for the award before being selected in the ninth round of the MLB Draft last June.
