LINCOLN, Neb. - The 14th-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team got offensive contributions from the entire lineup as the Sooners (36-10, 10-3 Big 12) downed Nebraska 8-0 in six innings on Sunday afternoon. The Sooners became the first team this season to shut out the Cornhuskers (27-22, 6-8 Big 12) in back-to-back games.
Oklahoma got on the board in the top of the second on a one-out two-RBI double by Katie Norris. Norris plated Lindsey Vandever, who reached on an error, and Haley Nix, who was hit by a pitch. Karolyne Long then drew a walk and Norris scored on a two-out single to left field by Haley Anderson before the inning ended.
The Sooners added two additional runs in the top of the fourth. Anderson reached on a single and Flores walked and Anderson scored on a single by Jessica Shults. Flores scored on a sacrifice bunt by Vandever to push the advantage to 5-0.
Oklahoma tacked on two more in the fifth. Norris reached on a fielder's choice and pinch runner Chana'e Jones moved to second on a walk by Long. Pinch hitter Wendy Trott came through with an RBI single to score Jones and a sacrifice fly from Anderson scored Brianna Turang.
Krystle Huey led off the sixth with a double and scored on a single by Jones to give OU an 8-0 lead.
Anderson ended the game 2-for-2 with two runs driven in and one scored. Norris went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run scored. Eight of Oklahoma's 12 batters all recorded a hit in the contest.
Sooner starter Allee Allen went 3.1 innings, allowing four hits and three walks. Allen registered three strikeouts. Michelle Gascoigne (6-0) picked up the win in relief, throwing 1.2 innings and allowing just one hit while striking out three.
Oklahoma returns to action Wednesday evening against seventh-ranked Oklahoma State (41-10, 10-3). The Bedlam series finale is scheduled for 7 p.m. CT at the OU Softball Complex. The game will air statewide on Cox Communications.
