Sooners Finish First Day in Ninth at Big 12s

TRINITY, Texas – The University of Oklahoma men's golf squad closed the opening day of the 2010 Big 12 Championship in ninth place with a two-round tally of 589 (+13) at Whispering Pines Golf Club in Trinity, Texas.
OU rebounded from a tournament-opening 299 with a nine-shot improvement in Friday's afternoon play (290).
Leading the Sooners is Riley Pumphrey, who stands tied for 10th at -2 after back-to-back rounds of 71. The Oklahoma duo of Ben Blundell and Liam Logan share 32nd at +4. Blundell fired a pair of 74s on day one, while Logan charged to a 2-under-par 70 in round two after opening the 72-hole event with a 7-over-par 78.
Rounding out the OU team scoring were Tyler Rody (77-75) and Ryan Sirman (77-76). Rody stands +8, while Sirman is a stroke back in a tie for 52nd.
OSU and Texas A&M share the overnight lead in the team race at -11. Texas Tech's Chris Ward fired rounds of 69 and 65 and holds the medalist lead at -10.
