The offense duplicated the feat during Friday's win with 12 more hits, but eclipsed the double-digit mark in runs as Cody Reine had another huge outing with three hits, including a two-run homer in the fifth inning. Max White also homered in the contest, one frame earlier, to give OU its 11th multiple home run game of the season. The Sooners lead the Big 12 with 40 dingers.
Oklahoma improved to 25-6 overall, but more importantly won their second straight Big 12 game to improve to 5-4 in conference play. The Sooners entered the series with Missouri (17-13, 2-6) after dropping three straight to then-No. 7 Texas last week.
"For us to win three out of our first four series is big and I think it's going to position us back in the race," said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway. "Now, what we need to do is understand we have to come out aggressive tomorrow because it's big for percentage points in the standings. We've already secured the series victory, but we have to make sure we complete the weekend on a high note and stay above the .500 mark in the Big 12."
The Tigers took a first inning lead for the second straight day as Aaron Senne extended his hitting streak to 15 games with a two-run homer to right-center field.
But for the 13th time this season and second in the series, OU came from behind for the victory. The rally started in the bottom of the first as Cameron Seitzer drove in his 31st run of the year with a sacrifice fly.
The Sooners tied the game at two apiece in the bottom of the second on Ricky Eisenberg's bunt single to score Caleb Bushyhead from third base.
In the top half of the second inning, Eisenberg (2-for-3) again provided a highlight with a diving catch in right-center field to rob Senne of a double or triple with the bases loaded.
"I thought it (the catch) really came at a key moment," said Golloway. "I thought the ball game could have been on the line early because he is a terrific hitter."
In the fourth and fifth innings, Oklahoma pulled away with a pair of two-run homers from White (2-for-5, two runs, two RBIs)and Reine, respectively.
That was all OU starter Bobby Shore would need to improve to 5-1. Shore settled once the Sooners went on top for good and tossed his fourth outing that lasted seven innings. The hurler also struck out six batters and helped preserve the Sooners' bullpen which enters Sunday finale with nearly every arm available.
"The key for us was scoring the runs early," added Golloway. "We score and take the lead in the bottom of the fourth and he (Shore) settled in after that. Once he got the lead, he seemed to be a different guy."
The start time of game three of the series on Sunday has been changed to 12:30 p.m. It will be joined in progress on the Sooner Sports Network on KREF 1400 AM following the OU softball game at Texas A&M (12 p.m.). The game will be televised via the Sooner Sports Network on Cox Channel 3 in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.
