Postgame Notes

March 06, 2010 | Men's Basketball

March 6, 2010

• Oklahoma (13-17, 4-12 Big 12) dropped its eighth straight game with a 69-54 loss to No. 23/24 Texas A&M (22-8, 11-5 Big 12) at Lloyd Noble Center.

• The Sooners led by as many as nine points (23-14) in a first half that featured three ties and seven lead changes. The Aggies took a 31-30 lead on two Khris Middleton free throws and didn't trail again.

• With the loss, OU is the No. 10 seed at next week's Big 12 Championship in Kansas City.  The Sooners will play No. 7 seed Oklahoma State Wednesday at 6 p.m. CT at the Sprint Center.

• The Sooners hit five of their first seven attempts from 3-point distance, but went just 2-of-13 from behind the arc afterward.  OU was 1-of-10 from long range in the second half and finished 7-for-20 (.350).

• Tommy Mason-Griffin set OU freshman records for assists (145) and 3-point makes (69) in a season with his four handouts and three treys today.  Entering the day, he was tied with Terry Evans (1990) in assists and trailed Willie Warren (2009) by one in 3-pointers.

• Mason-Griffin finished with a game-high 16 points, four rebounds and a pair of steals.  He entered today's contest leading all Big 12 newcomers with his 17.0 scoring average in league play.

• Mason-Griffin has now led the Sooners in scoring in nine of the last 13 outings (averaging 18.7 points during the stretch).

• Mason-Griffin's 145 assists on the year are the most since Terrell Everett recorded 199 during the 2005-06 season.

• Andrew Fitzgerald reached double figures for the third time in the last five games with 10 points.  Fitzgerald's six free throw makes and eight attempts marked career highs.

• OU honored seniors Tony Crocker, Beau Gerber and Ryan Wright, who played their final home game today.

• Wright scored 10 points (4-of-8 shooting) and added five rebounds in 30 minutes of action.

• Crocker scored four points, added three rebounds and three assists before fouling out.  It was Crocker's 95th consecutive start and the 124th in 131 career games.  He ranks 16th in career scoring, fourth in 3-point makes, fifth in games played and fifth in minutes.

• Gerber played five minutes in his first career start.

• The Sooners lost their final four home games after winning their first 11.

• Oklahoma now owns a 28-6 all-time record against Texas A&M.  Today's game marked just the second win for the Aggies in Norman in 16 games (they also defeated the Sooners 56-49 on Feb. 17, 2007).
