OU Finishes Day One in 15th in Georgia

GREENSBORO, Ga. – The Oklahoma men's golf squad stands 15th after the first round of the 2010 Linger Longer Invitational in Greensboro, Ga. The Sooners fired a tournament-opening score of 316 (+28) on Friday at the 7,051-yard, par 72 Landing Golf Course at Reynolds Plantation in Greensboro, Ga.
The Sooners were near the top of the leaderboard after nine holes at +4 counting their best four scores, but struggled on the back nine where OU was 19 strokes worse among the fivesome.
Liam Logan paced the Sooners with his 4-over-par 76. The Fort Worth, Texas, native stands 24th after carding five bogeys against a lone birdie on Friday.
Two shots back was Tyler Rody in a share of 48th at +6. Rody made par at his first nine holes, before notching a pair of costly double-bogeys in a five-hole stretch at No. 10 and No. 14. Rody bogeyed the 15th and 18th holes to finish with a 78.
Ben Blundell birdied three of his first six holes and was even par through 12 holes before carding a 10 at the par-4 13th. The Rowlett, Texas, senior bogeyed his next two holes and finished the round with an 8-over-par 80 in a tie for 66th.
Rounding out the team scoring was Riley Pumphrey (9-over-par 81) and Ben Klaus (10-over-par 82). Pumphrey had nine-hole scores of 41 and 40, while Klaus struggled on the back side after making the turn at +2.
Furman and No. 1 Oklahoma State hold the overnight lead at 293 (+5), while Alabama's Bud Cauley jumped out to a six-shot lead in the medalist race after an 8-under-par 64 on Friday.
