The game, which saw the Sooners (6-1) score first for the fourth time in the last five games, was shortened due to a travel curfew. However, OU took full advantage of the eight innings and tallied double-digit hits for the sixth time this season with 14 base knocks.
While Danny Black (3-for-4, 3 runs scored), Garrett Buechele (2-for-4, 3 runs, RBI) and Ross Hubbard (2-for-2, 2 RBIs) paced the offense, Bobby Shore improved to 2-0 on the mound with a career high eight strikeouts, while allowing just one run and one hit in the start.
"I was proud of the way we came back this morning after suffering the loss last night," said Golloway. "I thought we did a good job both offensively and defensively, and Bobby Shore was effective."
OU started things off in the first as Hubbard placed a bloop single to left field with two outs and brought home Black, who doubled to lead off the game.
In the bottom half of the first, Shore struck out the Richmond side but surrendered a solo homer to Mike Mergenthaler.
The OU offense opened things up in the third inning with three runs on four straight hits to open the frame. Black began the hit parade with his second double of the game and scored on Chris Ellison's single down the right-field line. Buechele followed with a double to left field for the second RBI of the third and Ross Hubbard drove in his second run on the morning with a single to center.
Richmond starter Matt Trent (0-2) was chased after three innings and OU then batted around the lineup in fourth and plated four more runs off Trent and reliever Brian Farrell.
Shore was impressive for the first three innings and struck out the side in the first and second, while also retiring eight in a row. However, he issued back-to-back walks in the bottom of the fourth after the Sooners' offensive explosion which saw seven runs cross the plate in the third and fourth innings.
Shore was forced to sit in the dugout for that extended period as OU sent 17 batters combined during the third and fourth innings. Despite walking the bases loaded in the fourth, he recorded his eighth strikeout to end the threat and recorded the win in a predetermined start.
In that four-inning span, Shore's only real mistake was the home run to Mergenthaler in the first as he allowed one hit, one run and three walks while striking out a career-high eight Spiders.
Buechele later added a single in the sixth to give him multi-hit games in all but one contest this season. Black extended his hitting streak to a team-best seven games.
OU got another solid performance from the bullpen that saw Jason Chowning throw 2 2/3 innings of shutout baseball while Anthony Collazo struck out the side in the eighth.
Overall, OU hurlers struck out 14 hitters on Sunday.
The Sooners return to Norman for the home opener against UT-Arlington set for 3 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2. OU will play six of its next seven inside the friendly confines of L. Dale Mitchell Park.
