FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.— No. 35 Oklahoma women's tennis picked up its fifth shutout this season on Saturday, beating Memphis on the road, 6-0.

Oklahoma (7-0, 0-0 Big 12) remains undefeated and is off to its best season start since 2003 when OU won eight-straight matches before losing to UNLV.

Memphis was missing two players due to injury and illness, forcing the No. 3 doubles match and No. 6 singles match to default.

“Memphis was missing two key players today but still competed very hard against us,” OU head coach David Mullins said. “Today was great preparation for our match with Arkansas tomorrow.”

The Sooners claimed the early lead after winning their seventh-straight doubles point behind wins at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions.

Ana-Maria Constantinescu and Teona Tsertsvadze, ranked No. 29 nationally in doubles, defeated Ashley Murdock and Marjorie Ondeck at the No. 1 spot, 8-4.  OU's Tara Eckel and Maria Kalashnikova also picked up a win at the No. 2 position, defeating Kelly Gray and Andrew Arques-Garcia, 8-3.

The Sooners have now won the doubles point in all seven matches this season and have won 17 of 20 doubles matches overall.

OU quickly took over the match in singles, winning all five matches in straight-sets.  The Sooners have now won 35 of 41 singles matches this season, including winning 31 of those 35 in straight-sets.

No. 76-ranked Constantinescu defeated Murdock after a close second-set, 6-4, 7-5, while the rest of the Sooners gave up two games or fewer in a combined seven of eight sets.

Marie-Pier Huet beat Ondeck at the No. 2 spot, 6-2, 6-2.  Kalashnikova defeated Arques-Garcia, 6-2, 6-1, in the No. 3 slot.  OU's Tsertsvadze beat Kelly Gray at the No. 4 spot, 6-2, 6-3, and OU's Kristina Radan shut out Dara Toulch at the No. 5 position, 6-0, 6-0.

Oklahoma will face No. 20 Arkansas on Sunday at noon at the Dills Indoor Tennis Center.  Sunday's match is OU's third against a top-40 opponent this season.
