Norris, Turang Come Through in 4-0 Win

CATHEDRAL CITY - The 12th ranked University of Oklahoma softball team opened the Cathedral City Classic with a 4-0 win over San Diego State. The Sooners moved to 9-1 on the year, while SDSU fell to 7-5. Freshman Keilani Ricketts had her perfect game broken up with a slow-rolling infield single with one out in the fifth inning. Freshman Brianna Turang went 2-for-3 and sophomore Katie Norris went 1-for-3 with each driving in two runs.
THE DIFFERENCE
The reigning Big 12 Pitcher of the Week and USA Softball National Player of the Week allowed just one hit in seven innings. It was Ricketts' fourth shutout of the season and moved her overall record to 6-1. Ricketts threw 92 pitches, allowed no walks, the one hit and struck out 10.
SCORING SUMMARY
The pitcher's duel finally broke in the bottom of the sixth inning. Junior Chana'e Jones doubled to right center to leadoff the inning. With two outs, senior Lindsey Vandever walked and Ricketts reached on an error. Turang then came through with a single up the middle to score Vandever and pinch runner Evan Sallis. After breaking the scoreless tie, Norris then brought home Turang and Ricketts on a single through the right side.
