Sooners Stand 13th After First Round in Puerto Rico

RIO GRANDE, PR – The Oklahoma men's golf squad stands 13th after shooting a 4-over-par 292 in the first round of the Puerto Rico Classic at the 6,902-yard, par-72 Rio Mar Golf Club in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, on Sunday.
Senior Ben Blundell was the lone Sooner in red figures with his 2-under-par 70. The Rowlett, Texas, native shot a back-nine 32, which tied for the lowest score over the final nine holes of any golfer in the 75-man field. Blundell heads to Monday's second round in a share of 14th.
The OU trio of Ben Klaus, Riley Pumphrey and Tyler Rody all share 47th after posting 74s on Sunday. A stroke back is Liam Logan (75), who stands 55th at +3.
No. 1 Oklahoma State holds a two shot lead in the team standings after a 13-under-par 275 on Sunday. The Cowboys were paced by Kevin Tway's 7-under-par 65, the lowest round in the field by two shots.
Oklahoma is paired with Michigan and UNC Greensboro in Monday's second round, which commences with a 6 a.m. (CT) shotgun start.
