QUICK RECAP |
The 11th-ranked University of Oklahoma softball team opened the 2010 season on Saturday with a 9-0 five-inning blanking of Florida Atlantic. The Sooners pounded out seven hits. Freshman Keilani Ricketts picked up the win in the circle and allowed just one hit and one walk on the afternoon. Sophomore Kirsten Allen pitched 2.0 innings.
THE DIFFERENCE
Freshman Jessica Shults' first-inning grand slam was her first career home run. The four runs proved to be the catalyst for Oklahoma's five-inning run rule win. Shults recorded five RBI on during the game, going 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
SCORING SUMMARY
Shults' first-inning grand slam plated Ricketts, Krystle Huey and Haley Nix. In the third inning marred by two FAU errors, pinch runner Evan Sallis scored on a base hit from Karolyne Long. Chana'e Jones then doubled to right center, scoring Long and Shults. OU added two unearned runs in the fifth when Amber Flores and Ricketts both crossed the plate.
