Oklahoma Head Coach Sherri Coale
On the game:
“The first game back after Christmas, you want to see if you can accomplish some things that you worked on over the break. To a certain extent we improved in areas that we had focused on. I thought we were very good in our sense of concentration. It's just good to play again and get a win after the foul taste we had to go to holiday break with.”
On tonight's good team effort:
“I particularly like the fact that we had 27 assists. In the last two games before the break, we had not shared the ball as well as we had previously and I'm a big believer that the quality of your passing affects the quality of your shooting. I think the one precedes the other and, tonight, I thought we shared it extremely well and the shooting numbers speak for themselves.”
On the starting five changing personnel:
“Before every game the guys who work the hardest and show the greatest sense of concentration of what we're working on are the guys that stand out there. But I've said this a million times, the guys who stand out there -- so what. Somebody might come off the bench and play twice as many minutes as the one who starts. It's a way bigger deal to everybody on the outside than it is to any of us on the inside.”
On Morgan Hook's play defensively:
“I think she got on the floor six times, I was counting. It's not necessarily her strong suit -- it has not been through the first semester of play. So that was one of the things we challenged her with over the break was to go make those effort plays and to get physical and I thought she did that tonight. Then she had the nifty behind-the-back tough finish in transition as well, so I think it's safe to say she's just not a shooter, she's a player.”
Oklahoma Senior Guard Danielle Robinson
On the start of the game:
“We knew our transition was going to be what carried us this game and I think we took advantage of that. We got a lot of tips on defense, rebounded well and got on man and hit some shots and I think that was a great start. That's what we needed.”
On moving forward:
“You know, the three turnovers I had in the first half were pretty much telegraphing and giving the ball up to early. That's what we need to fix but I need to fix it right away, I can't continue to turn it over four times a game—that's too many. I just got to make better decisions. ”
On the win:
“I think it helps us get our rhythm back. I think we had lost it for a while. Like I talked about earlier, our transition game—we were missing that the last couple games and I think this really brought it back. That's part of our identity is our transition game—our ability to run and make the extra passes so I think this game definitely helped with that.”
Oklahoma Freshman Guard Aaryn Ellenberg
On her performance:
“That was pretty much everybody—our teammates. They were kicking, driving, just moving without the ball. So I owe a lot of that to them, but I had a lot to do what that too.
