Men's Golf in Seventh at Gifford Collegiate Championship

NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma men's golf team stands in seventh place after shooting a first-round 379 (+24) Monday at the Gifford Collegiate Championship in San Martin, Calif. The Sooners are competing among a 12-team field that includes defending NCAA champion Augusta State and defending Gifford Collegiate champion Stanford.
OU trails leader and host UCLA (+12) by 12 strokes at the 7169-yard, par-71 CordeValle Resort. Stanford (+13) is one stroke back in second place while Washington (+15) is three shots back in third place.
Senior Ryan Sirman leads the Sooners after 18 holes at 4 over par and is in a tie for 25th place out of 76 golfers. Fellow senior Liam Logan, junior Riley Pumphrey and sophomores Will Kropp and Abraham Ancer each carded a 5-over-par 76 and are tied for 33rd place.
After a strong start (he shot a 1-over 37 on the front nine), freshman Michael Schoolcraft turned in a 6-over 41 on the back nine and is tied for 52nd at +7.

A six-count-five scoring format (the best five scorers from each school's six participants are counted each round) is being utilized for the 54-hole tournament.
The Gifford Collegiate Championship second round starts Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. CT. The third and final round will take place Wednesday. Live scoring is available at Golfstat.com.
