NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma wrestling team will send six wrestlers to compete in Oklahoma City Open Sunday, Nov. 7, at the Abe Lemons Arena on the OCU campus. Action begins at 9 a.m. with the finals set to start 3 p.m.
“It's going to be good competition for our guys,” head coach Jack Spates said. “We're making strides every week.”
Competing on behalf of the Sooners is Joe Back (HWT), Greg Cannon (125), Erich Schmidtke (184), Seth Vernon (149), Keldrick Hall (197) and Quincy Mondaine (197).
In addition to the Sooners there will be around 150-200 of the region's finest wrestlers on hand to compete in the tournament. Scheduled to compete are individuals from OCU, Oklahoma State, Central Oklahoma, Bacone, Ouachita Baptist (Ark.) and Wayland Baptist (Texas).
The Sooners will have 21 wrestlers competing unattached at the OCU Open.
Sooners competing unattached are Ronnie Balfour, Scott Chene, Kyle Colling, Sean Datte, Justin DeAngelis, Dillon Dennis, Kyle Detmer, Alex Ekstrom, Ian Fisher, Derek Geiges, Chase Gordon, Kosta Karageorge, Kendric Maple, Nolan McBryde, Derek Peperas, Dax Perrier, Clay Reeb, Dustin Reed and Ben Bridell.
“These guys are working really hard,” Spates said. “We are addressing our individual weaknesses and this is another gauge of where we are at.”
