TULSA, Okla. – Oklahoma's Ionut Beleleu and Costin Paval advanced to the quarterfinals of the D'Novo/ITA All-American Doubles Tennis Championships Friday, after defeating USC's ninth-ranked doubles tandem. In quarterfinal action, Friday, the OU duo fell to the nations No. 1 ranked doubles team from Duke.
Beleleu and Paval, ranked No. 18 nationally, opened play Thursday with an upset win over USC's ninth-ranked Steve Johnson and Daniel Nguyen, 9-7. The victory marks the duo's biggest win to date.
In the quarterfinals, the Sooner duo found themselves pitted against the No. 1 ranked doubles tandem, in Duke's Reid Carleton and Henrique Cunha. In the end, the Blue Devils proved to be too much for the Sooners, as they dropped the match, 8-3.
Oklahoma has concluded play at the All-American Championships and will begin play at the 2010 Hill Country Classic in Austin, Texas, Oct. 9-17.
