Throughout the 2010 season, SoonerSports.com will sit down with members of the OU cross country program to provide insight into practice, competition and a few fun facts you should know about each team member. This week we sat down with Rob Sorrell.
How is the season going so far and what can we expect for the rest of the season?
“The season is going well. We opened up at Wisconsin last week and as a whole we did pretty good. Our team place was not exactly ideal, but for where we are in the season, we got the results we were looking for. For the rest of the season, we expect to keep improving. Our training style is geared for the championship part of the season, so with each meet we should keep seeing improvement.”
Do you have any personal goals to accomplish this season?
“My personal goals are to primarily help the team. CC is a team sport and whatever I can do to help us place as high as we can at the Big 12 Championship and NCAA Nationals is what my main goal is. But to do that, I'll need to place high in the meets obviously…so my goal is to place in the top 10 at the Big 12 Championship and top 40 at Nationals.”
What is your favorite course to run and why?
“This is a tough one. I guess I would have to say that the Roy Griak course in Minnesota is my favorite. It's a real tough course on a golf course that we usually go to early in the season. It's kind of a “gut check” type of course. It's all about gauging your effort and being tougher than the other teams.”
What is your most memorable moment as a Sooner?
“That's another tough one. There are lots of memorable moments that I can talk about! Aside from the abundant amount of competition memorable moments, I think my most memorable moment as a Sooner is probably doing the Sunday long run with the team. We're out there for two hours or more just clicking off the miles in the summer heat and enjoying every minute of it. There's plenty of exciting moments that I've had, but those long runs is where I really got to know my teammates and where we all become a tight knit team.
What is your favorite thing about the team?
“My favorite thing about the team is the fact that I have complete confidence in all of my teammates. During a race, I know that the guys who are racing are doing everything they can to do the best job they can. Also, my teammates have confidence that I will do my job as well.”
