Austin, Texas - The University of Oklahoma rowing team competed in the Head of the Colorado Saturday, claiming three second-place and two third-place finishes. Of the 12 boats fielded, 11 finished in the top six.
OU fielded four boats in the open eight event, with the top boat finishing second with a time of 17 minutes and 24.3 seconds behind Texas (17:07.0). The "B" and "C" boats followed in third (18:19.4) and fourth (18:26.2), respectively and the "D" boat finished in eighth (18:57.1).
All open four boats finished in the top six, with the "A" and "B" boats finishing in second (20:14.4) and third (21:05.5) behind Texas (20:04.1). Following were the "C" and "D" boats, finishing in fifth (21:23.2) and sixth (21:27.0).
The novice team took to the water for the first time this season, fielding four boats in the regatta. Oklahoma fielded two boats in the first novice eight event, with the "A" boat finishing in fifth place (21:23.3). The "B" boat received a 60 second penalty for rowing through an out-of-bounds arch to finish in sixth (22: 10.8).
In the second novice eight event, the Sooners finished fourth (23:45.1) behind Texas' three fielded boats (22:03.3, 22:05.3, 23:33.0). The third silver of the day went to the novice four boat (24:00.1), which also finished behind Texas (22:21.6).
The Sooners will return to the water next weekend, Nov. 6-7, for their last regatta of the fall season, the Head of the Hooch.
