BOSTON - The University of Oklahoma women's rowing team finished 15th in the championship eight event at the Head of the Charles on Sunday.
"The team felt good about the race," Head Coach Leeanne Crain said. "We have a lot of work to do between now and our spring season to be competitive with the crews that finished ahead of us, but to be in the mix with these elite college programs is encouraging."
The Sooners fielded one boat in the competition, led by coxswain Kelsey Witten and rowers Rebecca Staff, Meghan Farrell, Nicole Furmanek, Katie Klassen, Sarah Kelle, Amber Coyne, Morgan Whinery and Meagan Harrell. The boat finished with a time of 16 minutes and 48.612 seconds.
Oklahoma finished behind top programs such as Princeton (15:48.314), Virginia ("A"-15:56.817, "B"- 16:21.977), Yale ("A"- 15:58.467, "B"- 16:32.298) and Stanford (16:22.000).
The Sooners return to the water next Saturday, Oct. 30 in Austin, Texas for the Head of the Colorado.
