Was It You? Oklahoma Passes 75,000
January 21, 2010 | Athletics
NORMAN, Okla. -- At approximately 10:55 Thursday morning, an OU fan pushed the official Oklahoma Athletics Department Facebook page past the 75,000 mark. OU became the first Big 12 Conference school to amass 75,000 fans on its official page.
In August of 2009, Oklahoma passed Nebraska for the most popular page in the league. Based on our latest research, OU's page is the third-largest official athletics department page (behind Ohio State and Kentucky).
The demographics indicate a national and international reach for the Sooners. Outside Oklahoma, top ten cities for OU Facebook fans include Dallas, Houston, Atlanta and Chicago. Beyond the U.S., OU Facebook fans have joined in numbers from Canada, Mexico, the U.K., Germany, France, Japan, Italy and Australia.
Although SoonerSports.com is the main portal for comprehensive coverage of OU athletics, Facebook serves an important role for Sooner fans. Those who join are notified on their personal page of breaking news, features and promotions direct from Norman.
In addition to Facebook, OU also maintains the No. 1 YouTube channel and No. 1 Twitter feed among Big 12 schools. These social media platforms enable Sooner fans to remain connected to OU around the world.
If fans prefer to receive email updates on the Sooners, OU's weekly Boomerblast is the answer. Arriving in email inboxes once each week, Boomerblast provides a quick preview of the week ahead. Subscribers also view exclusive features, video content, ticket offers and special promotions.
