NORMAN, Okla. -- University of Oklahoma freshman Jake Dalton posted the highest vault score of the all-around competition with a 16.100, while competing with fellow USA teammate John Orozco at the Junior Japan International Competition, Sept. 20-25, in Yokohama, Japan.
Dalton finished sixth in the all-around with a score of 83.250, while qualifying for five event finals for the second day of competition. He finished fifth on floor (14.650) and vault (15.450), tied for fifth on rings (14.200), sixth on horizontal bar (13.500) and eighth on parallel bars (13.400).
The Sparks, Nev., native is the latest Sooner to represent his country on the international stage. He will join junior Steven Legendre and former Sooner and Olympic Medalist Jonathon Horton at the World Championships in London.
Dalton, who placed 14th all-around at the 2009 U.S. Championships, is the second-youngest member of the U.S. men's team named to compete at the World Championships.
The Oklahoma Sooners will represent half of the USA men's gymnastics' team that was finalized on Sept. 13 and will compete at the 2009 World Championships on Oct. 13-19 in London, England.
