OU's Run at U.S. Amateur Ends

TULSA, Okla. - University of Oklahoma freshman golfer Davis Lee and former letterwinner Phillip Bryan both finished outside the top 64 after stroke play of the 2009 U.S. Amateur Championship, ending their run at the oldest USGA event.

Lee (+12 - 152) fired his second straight 76 on Tuesday at Cedar Ridge Country Club in Tulsa, Okla. The Palisades Park, N.J., native played his final nine holes at level par at the par-70, 7331-yard layout, but missed the cut by four shots after a slow start that resulted in a 41 on the courses back nine (Lee started the day on No. 10).

Lee carded bogeys at No. 10, No. 11, No. 14, No. 15 and a double-bogey six at the par-4 18th, dropping to +12 for the tournament after a 6-over-par 76 on Monday at Southern Hills. Bogey's at No. 1 and No. 7 were countered with a pair of birdie at the fifth and ninth for a front-nine 35.

Bryan (+23 - 163) backed up a tournament-opening 85 with a 78 on Tuesday at Cedar Ridge. The Mustang, Okla., native posted matching 39s on both nines.

Overnight leader Tim Jackson won medalist honors after a 72 on Tuesday at Cedar Ridge. Jackson posted a two-day total of 140 (E), earning a one-stroke victory over a trio of golfers.

The top 64 players advanced to match play, which runs Wednesday-Sunday at Southern Hills.
