NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma baseball team reported back to Norman on Monday, Aug. 24 for the first day of classes on campus.
The Sooners return 15 letterwinners overall from the 2009 team that earned the nation's No. 7 seed and hosted the Norman Regional with a 43-20 overall mark and a second place finish in the Big 12 (17-10).
Among the everyday starters returning are Garrett Buechele (3B), Chris Ellison (RF) and Casey Johnson (LF) while Kaleb Herren (OF/DH), Tyler Ogle (DH/C) and Cameron Seitzer (INF/DH) all logged at least 20 starts a year ago. The remaining letterwinners in the field include Elliott Blair (OF), Caleb Bushyhead (INF), Bryan Groth (C) and Ross Hubbard (DH/INF).
OU also returns eight members from the 2009 pitching staff with Jason Chowning, Ryan Duke, Jeremy Erben, Kaleb Herren, J.R. Robinson, Michael Rocha, Jarrett Semler and Kennedy Winn.
The returners will be joined by a group of 19 newcomers competing for playing time. A brief bio of each newcomer is listed below. Stay tuned to SoonerSports.com for more detailed information on each new Sooner in the coming weeks.
"We are looking forward to gettting things started," said Golloway. "While we lost some talented players to the draft, the newcomers will provide us with the depth to provide for another exciting journey for a Big 12 and national championship in the spring."
The Sooners will begin fall practices on Sept. 21.
