NORMAN, Okla. -- Throughout the summer, SoonerSports.com will bring fans weekly updates of current Sooners competing in the numerous summer baseball leagues around the country. Fans can also access information on former Sooners playing in Major League Baseball and its minor league affiliates.
The first installment, along with links to each of the players' statistics, are listed below:
SUMMER COLLEGIATE LEAGUE
Casey Johnson and Jason Chowning (Hyannis Mets) and Michael Rocha (Bourne Braves) are playing in the Cape Cod League, while Jarrett Semler is the lone hurler in California playing in the 2009 NBC Collegiate Summer League with the Newport Beach Storm.
Chris Ellison (Peninsula Oilers) is taking the lead in the Alaskan Summer League hitting .275 ranking him first on the team. He also has an impressive five games with multiple hits. Teammate Caleb Bushyhead is also playing well this summer hitting .207 with five RBIs placing him fourth on the Oilers' roster.
Playing this summer in the Texas Collegiate League is pitcher Kennedy Winn (Brazos Valley Bombers). Winn has pitched just over 27 innings and recorded an ERA of 4.28. Joining Winn in the TCL is Tyler Ogle (McKinney Marshals).
Up in the Canadian Summer League, Levi Rhoades is playing with the Yorkton Cardinals.
OKLAHOMA IN THE MINORS
Joe Dunigan is on a roll and it does not seem he will be slowing down anytime soon. Playing with the High Desert Mavericks (Class A), he was named to the California League All-Star team in June and has ranked near the top of the league in batting average, homers, RBIs and slugging percentage. While in the minors this season, he has averaged a .300 hitting percentage and collected 64 RBIs and 18 homeruns.
Daniel McCutchen is also excelling with the Indianapolis Indians (AAA) in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization. McCutchen is 8-5 and has won each of his last four starts and lasted five or more innings in his last 10 appearances.
Making the jump from Class A to Class AA in 2009 is catcher Jackson Williams (Connecticut Defenders) and Chuckie Caufield (Huntsville Stars). Williams has had an impressive 2009 campaign so far and has hit safely in seven out of the last nine games played with four RBIs.
Making his minor league debut with only five games under his belt, former catcher J.T. Wise has already made an impact on the Ogden Raptors hitting .381 on the season, along with one homerun and four RBIs.
SOONERS IN THE MAJORS
Chris Jakubauskas is the latest Sooner to debut in the big leagues in 2009 with eight starts for the Seattle Mariners. He has made a total 15 appearances for the Mariners this season.
Russ Ortiz has made it back to the Majors during the 2009 season and has joined the Houston Astros pitching rotation.
Jason Bartlett continues to shine with the Tampa Bay Rays and currently is hitting .347 on the season with 39 RBIs and eight homeruns. Adding to his impressive resume this season, in the last 10 games Bartlett has not hit under .347.
In the National League, Greg Dobbs continues to remain a consistent player for the Phillies and is hitting .269 on the season with 16 RBIs and five homeruns.
Other Sooners playing in Major League Baseball in 2009 include: Greg Norton (Atlanta Braves), Reggie Willits (LAA Angels), Geoff Geary (Houston Astros) and David Purcey (Toronto Blue Jays).
