NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma rower Brooke Sheppard was selected to attend the US Rowing Women's National Team freshman camp held at Cornell University in Ithaca, N.Y., June 21-27. Sheppard was one of 40 freshmen selected from across the nation to attend one of two camps.
“This is a wonderful opportunity for Brooke to train with some of the best college athletes in the country,” head coach Leeanne Crain said. “She has distinguished herself this year on the water and in the classroom and it's great to see her recognized by US Rowing. I'm sure she'll have a tremendous experience at camp, and will undoubtedly bring what she learns back to the team next fall.”
This year, Sheppard excelled in the classroom with a 4.0 GPA in the fall, was a member of the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll for the fall 2008 semester and was awarded the Jay Myers award, given to OU freshmen student-athletes who best combine excellence in scholarship with potential excellence in their chosen field of athletic endeavor. On the water, Sheppard competed with the first novice eight team that made Grand Final appearances at the San Diego Crew Classic and the NCAA South/Central Regionals, and won the first novice eight race at the Big 12 Championships.
