OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway
On playing at home:
“Extremely proud for our young men. One of things we talk about in the fall is earning a national seed, being able to earn our way and having the road to Omaha go right through L. Dale Mitchell Park. We talk about that all the time. We talk about teams having a much higher percentage of teams getting to Omaha by playing at home. With all that said and done, proud for our student athletes and the support our administration has given us to secure a regional.
On earning a national seed:
“Our young men went out and earned a national seed and that's very apparent through their body of work all year. Your national seed will mean nothing, you have to go out and win the first round and be home for a super regional. We are looking forward to one pitch and that's the first pitch Friday night against Wichita State.
On playing three regular season opponents in the same bracket:
“When I looked at the bracket, we were familiar with all three teams. We've played all three. That is very rare when you are in a regional and you've played all three opponents.”
Senior Catcher J.T. Wise
On playing in front of home crowd:
“We get to stay here in front of our fans and play three other quality opponents and you know they are going to bring all their fan support with them. This place is going to be really alive. The advantage for us is that we don't have to go to another place and learn how a field plays and have to get adjusted to that. Instead of having the fans against us, they are going to be with us all weekend and that is going to be a big factor.”
Junior outfielder Jamie Johnson
On earning a national seed:
“I think they looked at our season as a whole and a saw that we deserved it. It could have went either way. They (ESPN commentators) talked about us being a bubble team (as a national seed), I guess what we did, they gave us credit for it.”
On playing three familiar opponents:
“I would say it's an equal advantage knowing the other teams as well as them knowing us. It's good knowing what other teams are going to bring to the table.
On the home-field advantage:
“The home-field advantage is huge. Having a No. 1 seed and sleeping in your own bed, you can't ask for anything better.”
