Racing for the First Big 12 Title

NORMAN, Okla. - The University of Oklahoma women's rowing team competes in the first Big 12 Championship in rowing on Saturday, May 2 on Wyandotte County Lake, hosted by the University of Kansas. Oklahoma, along with Kansas, Kansas State and Texas, make up the Big 12 rowing teams.
The second novice consisting of coxswain Haley Brown, Izzy Stewart, Jenava Burguiere, Katherine Rabe, Brooke Homer, Laurel Holasek, Brandi Brown, Janelle Roche and Madelyn Randolph compete first at 10:30 a.m. CT. Texas is the only conference team the OU second novice eight has faced this year with UT winning the race at the Longhorn Invitational with a time of seven minutes, 42 seconds-to-7:43.47.
Oklahoma's first novice eight of coxswain Kelsey Witten, Lindsay Hemingway, Brooke Sheppard, Laura Moon, Sarah Kelle, Heather McDonald, Caroline Brannin, Cara Bowers and Monique Gaines compete at 10:45 a.m. The first novice eight is 1-1 in Big 12 competition. At the Longhorn Invitational, Oklahoma was defeated by Kansas State 7:41.5-to-7:48.1, before beating Texas 7:04.5-to-7:11.6.
The varsity four faces Big 12 competition for the first time at 11:00 a.m. Coxswain Lauren Price, Meagan Harrell, Elena Engles, Chelsea Moore and Teddi Dwyer raced in varsity eight competition two weeks ago at the SIRA Championships. The last time the Sooners raced a varsity four was April 3 in San Diego in a 19-second victory against the University of San Diego and San Diego State.
