NORMAN, Okla. – University of Oklahoma men's golf coach Jim Ragan announced the signing of Davis Lee to a National Letter of Intent on Monday. Lee will join the Sooners for the 2009-10 golf season.
Lee is currently a senior at the Hank Haney International Junior Golf Academy in Hilton Head, S.C., where he has been a full time resident for the last five years. Lee has regularly competed on the International Junior Golf Tour (IJGT), where he has recorded 16 top-3 finishes including three wins en route to becoming a two-time IJGT All-American.
Playing a limited American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) schedule, Lee has still managed to be ranked in the top 30 of the Polo/AJGA junior golf rankings for the class of 2009. Lee recorded a runner-up finish at the Mizuno Junior at Innisbrook Resort in Florida in his most recent AJGA national event, missing a playoff by one stroke in the three round event at the demanding Copperhead Golf Course.
Lee is the third-highest ranked player in the class of 2009 (Polo/AJGA rankings) to sign within the Big 12 conference.
“I am excited about Davis joining our team next fall,” said OU head coach Jim Ragan. “He is an outstanding player who has dedicated much of his life to developing his golf game. He made a commitment to live away from home where he could focus on reaching his potential as a player. I believe his plan has worked well and we are fortunate to have him decide to become a Sooner.”
Added Ragan, “I have been very impressed from the moment I met Davis by his level of maturity and focus on and off the golf course. I believe he will make an immediate impact on our team.”
Lee joins a list of highly acclaimed players that Ragan has signed at OU including PGA Tour star Anthony Kim and European Tour players Carlos Del Moral and Jordi Garcia, along with a host of other players in the professional ranks.
“Coach Bryan was very involved with the evaluation and recruiting process of Davis,” said Ragan.
Bryan said on the signing of Lee, “Davis is a very accomplished player. I am fortunate to have been paired with some of college golf's best players over the last five years and Davis has many of the same attributes of those players. I believe he will be an outstanding college player that will help our team the moment he steps on campus.”
Lee is the son of Sangkook Lee and Oakyoung Kang who reside in New Jersey.
