ST. LOUIS -- Courtney Paris was named to the U.S. Basketball Writers Association All-America Team Wednesday, becoming the first man or woman to be a four-time recipient of the honor.

Paris, who became the first player in college basketball history, regardless of gender or division, to record 2,500 points and 2,000 rebounds in a career, was joined on the team by Stanford's Jayne Appel, Duke's Chante Black, Auburn's DeWanna Bonner, Maryland's Marissa Coleman and Kristi Toliver, Ohio State's Jantel Lavender, Louisville's Angel McCoughtry, Connecticut's Maya Moore and Renee Montgomery and California's Ashley Walker.

Moore was named the USBWA National Player of the Year and her coach, Geno Auriemma, was named national coach of the year.  Tennessee's Shekinna Stricklen was named freshman of the year.

Five of the 10 All-Americans will be present in St. Louis this weekend with their teams as Final Four participants.  Paris leads the Oklahoma Sooners to battle against McCoughtry and the Louisville Cardinals.  Moore and Montgomery take undefeated UConn into battle against Appel and Stanford.

The U.S. Basketball Writers Association, formed in 1956, has named a women's All-America team since the 1996-97 season. The association has also named a national player of the year since 1987-88 and a national coach of the year since 1989-90. In 2002-03, the USBWA initiated an award for the nation's top freshman.

Tuesday, Paris became the first four-time Associated Press All-America First Team member.
