NORMAN, Okla. – The University of Oklahoma women's tennis team will host a doubleheader against Oral Roberts and Oklahoma Baptist Sunday, March 8 at the Headington Family Tennis Center in Norman, Okla.
The doubleheader will be OU's first matches of the season in Norman, Okla. The Sooners (4-5 Overall, 0-1 Big 12) will face Oral Roberts (0-6) at 12 p.m., and Oklahoma Baptist (3-4 Overall, 1-0 SAC) at 5 p.m.
"The team is really looking forward to finally being home for a weekend,” OU head coach David Mullins said. “After eight-straight matches on the road it will be very nice to play in front of our own fans again.”
The Sooners enter Sunday's match coming off a huge road-win against No. 32 Tulsa on Wednesday, March 4. OU upset Tulsa, its highest ranked opponent of the season, 4-3. Freshman Marie-Pier Huet clinched the win for the Sooners, defeating Tulsa's Diaz-Barriga, 6-2, 6-2.
"I am very proud of the way our team competed Wednesday,” Mullins said. “It was nice to end our stretch of away matches with an upset win over Tulsa."
The Sooners, 1-0 at home, swept their only home match against UTPA on Jan. 24, 2009 in Oklahoma City, Okla., at the Oklahoma City Golf and Country Club. OU won all three doubles matches and all six doubles matches against UTPA. Since their opening match, the Sooners have played eight-straight road matches, including five matches against ranked opponents.
