NORMAN, Okla. -- The No. 16 Sooners completed a doubleheader sweep of Arkansas Little Rock at L. Dale Mitchell Park with a 16-6 victory after eight innings on Tuesday.  OU won game one, 11-7, and improved to 9-3 on the season.  Arkansas Little Rock dropped to 4-6.

“It is not easy going on the road for a week, come back for, really, less than a day (of rest) and then play a double dip,” said OU Head Coach Sunny Golloway.  “I was proud of the way we came out and executed on offense today.”

OU completed its first trip of the season on Sunday, a span that saw the Sooners play six games in six days.

Oklahoma built a 10-0 lead on Tuesday after its at-bat in the bottom of the fourth, but Arkansas Little Rock battled back for the second straight game.  Despite allowing six runs in the top of the fifth, the Sooner bullpen came on to hold the opposition at bay as Kaleb Herren improved to 2-0 with 2 2/3 innings of scoreless relief.  Jarrett Semler pitched the final inning and held the Trojans scoreless in the eighth.

Casey Johnson capped off a productive day after another solid performance in game two, going 2-for-4 with three RBIs.  In game one, Johnson drove in a career-high four RBIs during a 3-for-5 performance.

Jamie Johnson led off the game with his team-leading fifth homer of the season.  Johnson also led off game one on Tuesday with a round tripper and has accomplished that feat on three occasions this season.  Ahead 1-0 after the first inning, the Sooners plated three runs in each of the next three frames.

In the bottom of the second, Tyler Ogle and Matt Harughty each drove in a run while a third scored on a failed pickoff attempt by the UALR catcher.

The Sooners tacked on three more runs in the bottom of the third on Aaron Baker's RBI double and Chris Ellison's two-run single.  In the fourth, Casey Johnson powered OU to a 10-0 lead with his second home run of the day (he hit his first of the season in game one), a three-run shot to right field.  Johnson finished the doubleheader with seven RBIs after entering Tuesday's action with one run driven.

After the Trojans ended OU starter C.J. Blue's outing with the six-run fifth, the Sooners quickly countered and gave the bullpen some insurance runs.

The Sooners had another big inning and batted through the order in the sixth for the eighth time this season and plated four more runs.  Ross Hubbard drove in the first run of the inning and was followed by Ellison's RBI single and Matt Harughty's two-run single up the middle.  Ellison joined Casey Johnson as one of four Sooners to post multiple-hit performances in game two on Tuesday.  Ellison finished with career highs in hits and RBIs with three.  Cameron Seitzer (2-for-5) and Jamie Johnson (2-for-3) also turned in solid days at the plate in game two.

Tuesday's doubleheader marked the start of Oklahoma's longest home stand of 2009 with eight games.  OU will host No. 9 UCLA in a three-game set over the weekend before welcoming California on Monday, March 9 and Houston Baptist on March 10 and 11.

Friday's series opener with the Bruins is slated for a 3 p.m. first pitch at L. Dale Mitchell Park.
