NORMAN, Okla. -- The 41st-ranked University of Oklahoma men's tennis team (9-7, 0-3 Big 12) dropped its second Big 12 match of the weekend to No. 12 Texas, 5-2.

“I thought we gave a great effort,” OU head coach Paul Lockwood said. “We certainly put ourselves in a position to win some first sets and tie-breakers, but it just didn't work out.”

OU began the match dropping the critical doubles point. Junior Andrei Daescu teamed with sophomore Ionut Beleleu at the No. 2 position to defeat the Horn's Dimitar Kutrovsky and Josh Zavala, 9-8. The OU duo is 3-0 in Big 12 action.

The Sooners began singles competition taking the first two matches and an early 2-1 lead. Daescu defeated the Horn's Kutrovsky, 6-2, 6-3. Junior Blake Boswell took down UT's Josh Zavala, 6-3, 6-1, at the No. 6 position.

However, OU was unable to secure victories in close sets at the No. 4 and 5 positions.

“Hopefully we will rebound and be ready for Rice and Nebraska,” Lockwood said. The Sooners return to action Friday, April 3, when they take on Rice in Norman.
