Wise Earns Big 12 Weekly Honor

IRVING, Texas – Senior catcher J.T. Wise was named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week on Monday after he helped lead Oklahoma, ranked No. 11 in this week's USA Today/ESPN Top 25 poll, to three wins on the road over ranked opponents.

The award is the first for Wise and the second this season by a Sooner. Ryan Duke was named the pitcher of the week by the conference on March 9.

Missouri's Kyle Gibson was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week.

Wise extended his hitting streak to 10 games on Sunday against Kansas State after finishing last week with eight hits in 15 plate appearances, good for a .533 batting average. Wise and the Sooners went 3-1 last week with a 2-1 series win at then-No. 26 Kansas State over the weekend and an 8-7 win at then-No. 14 TCU on Tuesday.

In four games last week, Wise hit two home runs and drove in 11 runs while recording a .933 slugging percentage. The Sooners' catcher also scored five runs and walked once with a .563 on-base percentage.

In Sunday's finale at Kansas State, Wise tied a school record with five hits and hit two of the Sooners' 11 home runs, a total that tied a Big 12 record and was two short of tying an NCAA record. Wise also drove in a career-high seven runs in the contest and scored four more.

During his recent hitting streak, Wise has five multi-hit games and three multi-RBI games. He currently ranks third on the team with a .386 batting average and second amongst all Sooners in homers (7) and RBIs (25).

Wise and the Sooners (20-5) return to action on Tuesday against Central Arkansas (12-9) in Norman. First pitch at L. Dale Mitchell Park is slated for 7 p.m. and $.50 hot dogs and cokes will be available while supplies last.
