Sooners Finish First Regatta

NORMAN, Okla. -- After three days of competition, the Oklahoma rowing team raced their final duals at the Longhorn Invitational Sunday on Lady Bird Lake.

Sunday's competition began with the OU varsity four dualing the defending national champion Wisconsin lightweights for the second time. The first meeting between the two resulted in a loss by the Sooners, seven minutes 33.7 seconds-to-7:32.5. Today held the same result as Oklahoma posted a time of 7:59.3 and Wisconsin posted a time of 7:55.8.

The OU second novice eight competed for the first time today against the Texas novice eight. The race was close until the finish, but the Longhorns defeated the Sooners 7:43.7-to-7:42.

The first regatta of the spring season left the Sooners at an overall record of 4-4. The varsity four defeated Iowa and Central Florida while being defeated by the Wisconsin lightweights twice. OU's first novice eight recorded two victories over Texas and Iowa with one loss to Kansas State. The second novice eight raced only once this weekend losing to Texas.

Oklahoma races again March 28 versus Southern Methodist and Kansas in Oklahoma City.
