Sooners Start With a Bang in Texas

NORMAN, Okla. -- The University of Oklahoma rowing team completed the first day of racing at the Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas against Iowa and Kansas State.

Oklahoma's varsity four competed in the first race of the day defeating the Iowa varsity four, 8 minutes 21.9 seconds -to- 8:56.1. The Sooner four never trailed and was led by coxswain Lauren Price, stroke Teddi Dwyer, Chelsea Moore, Elena Engles and Meagan Harrell.

The second Sooner race of the afternoon was a fight to the end as a late push by the OU first novice eight was not enough to upend the Kansas State novice eight. OU posted a time of 7:48.1 and were defeated by Kansas State who posted a time of 7:41.5.

The Sooner rowers are back in action Saturday when they face Texas, Wisconsin, Iowa and Central Florida.
