ATLANTA -- The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) announced Oklahoma's Sherri Coale as its regional coach of the year and Courtney Paris among its regional finalists for the State Farm All-America team Tuesday.
Coale was named the Russell Athletic/WBCA Region 5 Coach of the Year for a fourth time after leading Oklahoma to a Big 12 regular season title and No. 1 seed in the 2009 NCAA Women's Basketball Championship. Coale also earned region coach of the year honors in 2000, 2001 and 2006.
Paris was one of 52 regional finalists competing to make the 10-member State Farm All-America Basketball Team. Paris has been a consensus All-American each of her three previous seasons at Oklahoma.
The 6-4 center helped Oklahoma dominate the Big 12 Conference this season, taking a 15-1 league record and regular season championship. This season, Paris took over as the NCAA's leading career rebounder and ended her record double-double streak at 112 consecutive games.
Paris is 30 rebounds shy of becoming the first college basketball player in history -- any gender, any membership, any division -- to reach 2,500 points and 2,000 rebounds in a career.
