NORMAN, Okla. -- Oklahoma rowing signee Rebecca Staff was one of six women selected for the Canadian Junior National Team camp to be held March 14th-22nd.
Staff will attend the camp, held by Rowing Canada Aviron, at Shawnigan Lake, BC. The camp includes a full week of on-water training, ergometer testing, core training and information sessions from a variety of presenters, including senior men's head coach Mike Spracklen, Olympic gold medalist Malcolm Howard, and members of rowing Canada's integrated support team.
"This is a wonderful opportunity for Rebecca," OU head coach Leeanne Crain said. "She has a tremendous amount of natural talent and it's great that the national team coaches have taken notice of her. She's definitely got the potential to row at the elite level and we are fortunate to have her coming in next year to row for OU. She and her doubles partner, Meghan Farrell, are going to be great additions to our roster."
Staff finished eighth out of 218 rowers at the Concept 2 World Indoor Championships a month ago with a time of 7:23.1. Staff is currently rowing for Tempe Junior Crew in Tempe, Ariz., and will join the OU rowing program in the fall of 2009.
