OU Opens Spring with Top-10 Result

KAMUELA, Hawaii - The University of Oklahoma men's golf squad opened its spring slate with a top-10 finish at the 19th-annual University of Hawaii at Hilo Invitational Golf Tournament on Friday.

The Sooners closed with a final-round team score of 293 (+5) at the par-72, 6,913-yard Mauna Lani Resort North Course, finishing in a tie for 10th.  OU's Friday team tally was a 10-stroke improvement over its second round on Thursday and its lowest of the event.

Oklahoma bested six squads its spring opener that featured seven teams ranked in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin top-25 rankings.

OU was paced by Liam Logan (T22), Riley Pumphrey (T24) and Ben Blundell (T30), who all finished within two strokes of each other at +4, +5 and +6, respectively.  Logan reached red figures on Friday with a final-round 2-under-par 70 after opening the tourney with back-to-back rounds of 75.  Pumphrey carded a 77 in the final round while Blundell rebounded with a 1-over-par 73 after shooting 79 yesterday.

Oklahoma freshman Chris Wilson fired his lowest round of the event on Friday with a final-round 73 in share of 50th, while Eric Durbin rounded out the team scoring in a tie for 94th after a round of 78.

Overnight leader Southern Cal, ranked No. 2 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin index, took home team honors by 11 strokes over runner-up Washington.  UW's Nick Taylor held on for medalist honors at 210 (-6), earning a one-stroke victory over Jaime Lovemark of the Trojans.
