February 28, 2009 | Men's Basketball

Feb. 28, 2009

• Oklahoma improved to 26-3 on the season and to 12-2 in the Big 12 with a 78-63 win at Texas Tech. OU, which never trailed in the game, has won 12 conference games for the first time since 2005 (still has two games remaining).

• The Sooners' 26 wins are their most since posting 27 in their 2002-03 Elite Eight season.

• Blake Griffin returned to the court after missing the last game and a half (concussion) to finish with 20 points, 19 rebounds, two assists and two blocked shots.

• Griffin's 19 boards gave him 391 for the season, a single-season school record.  Wayman Tisdale owned the previous record of 378 rebounds in 1984-85.  Griffin has played in 28 games this season while Tisdale played in 37 in 1984-85.

• After recording double-doubles in both halves of OU's Feb. 14 win over Tech, Griffin had 14 points and 10 boards in the first half of today's contest.

• Taylor Griffin scored a career-high 22 points on 8-for-12 shooting and added eight rebounds and two assists. He also made his lone 3-point attempt and went 5-for-6 from the free throw line.

• Taylor Griffin became the fifth Sooner to reach the 20-point mark in a game this season (Blake Griffin, Tony Crocker, Austin Johnson and Willie Warren are the others).

• Omar Leary came off the bench to score a season-high-tying 11 points, his most ever in a Big 12 game. The back-up point guard's 18 minutes were his second most in league play this year.

• Leary hit two 3-pointers for the second straight game. He now has 13 treys on the year and is shooting .394 from long range.

• Austin Johnson netted 10 points, all in the second half. He was 2-for-4 from 3-point range to drop his percentage in Big 12 road games to .533 (16-for-30).

• Ahead 53-51, OU outscored Texas Tech 25-12 over the final 7:47.

• The Sooners outrebounded the Red Raiders by 19 (42-23). Two weeks ago in Norman, they outboarded Tech by 20 (48-28).

• Texas Tech entered the game shooting .377 from 3-point range, but shot just .240 today (6-for-25). It shot .386 from the field, becoming OU's 14th opponent this year to shoot below .400.

• Oklahoma improved to 29-16 all-time against Texas Tech and to 10-10 against the Red Raiders in Lubbock. The Sooners are now 20-8 in the series since the formation of the Big 12 Conference.
